in this world

in this world

by moochie

In this world of constant trauma,

Sometimes it’s easier to be shallow

For with less emotion invested,

Comes less damage and pain

In this world of stable despair,

Sometimes it’s easier to be superficial

For it’s easier to get material wants

Than acquiring human affection

In this world of regular infidelities,

Sometimes it’s easier to be alone

For the less people you care for

The less will disappoint you

In this world of continuous heresy,

Sometimes it’s easier to trust the popular

Than risk public exile and execution

By speaking your beliefs

In this world of endless discrimination,

Sometimes it’s easier to blend in.

For the less you try to be yourself

The less the chance to get rejected

In this vast world of wretchedness and chaos

It’s always easier to give up living.

For if we cease to breathe and live

The pain that comes with living also ends

But be not mislead and remember

Without shadows the beauty of a tree

Would have not been captured

In the striking rays of the sun

Without tears shed

Our eyes would have dried

And though going blind means

Fewer deaths to witness

It also means forever being deprived

Of the glory that is the sunrise

And without losing

No one will win.

In this irony that we live in

Keep in mind that

After the pain will come the joy

After the rain will come the sun

After the suffering will come rest

And after our sacrifices will come heaven.
