i saw this in my archives, i wrote this a while back... and now im posting it.
i wrote this when a group and i came from an outreach event. we went to a orphanage. we visited the kids and had fun with them. a day of games, gifts and food galore. Now, i'm not an all-out sweet person and neither am I plastic nor pretentious especially to kids who the world has turned back on. Anyways, i was struck when everybody in the group was pretending to be sweet to the kids and making them feel like they're the new heroes when in fact, the outreach is just for a day and the probability of anyone of us coming back is slimmer than me winning the lotto. I don't like pretense like that, and until now i still do not like it.
What is charity?
Charity is not the fulfillment of our need to feel helpful. Charity is not the act of satisfying one’s moral principles. Charity is the selfless act of helping others. It is not a dramatic transition from apathetic to compassionate. Ideally, it should never be a part of political propaganda, but sadly it is one of the most popular forms of publicity. People have a soft spot for leaders who seem to care. But really what is charity? What is an outreach?
Well, honestly I don’t know anymore. I use to think that acts of kindness were voluntary, but it’s been proven that it is a mandatory norm. I use to think that charity was more than monetary but experience has proven otherwise. I use to think that charity was a pure form of selflessness. I use to think that charity goes with out saying but reality is that there is more “said” than “done”. I use to think that charity was something emotional, I never regarded it as forced drama.
What is happening to our system? When people who try to reach out are pretentious. Politics, false pretense, a charade, if you may, it would seem that socio civic acts are done in order to fulfill a requirement, be accepted in society, build a public image, or even satisfy one’s ego, or conscience. Pathetic. What has become of this world? When people are becoming so defensive to even put on a circus of care, to cover up a lifetime’s worth of apathy.
In recent, apathy is no longer a form of potential energy rather it has become an accelerating force with the ability to transform empathy and sympathy into policy. I don’t know what else to say but that there is more to this blog than what meets the eye. This blog was caused by something thing which i noticed, and physically observed. I saw it for my own eyes. And no, this is not a form of political satire. This is more like me, unable to keep my mouth shut. Maybe in time I’d be able to be more frank, but as of know I’m still building my arguments
